Who We Work With
Magnetic Compass Solutions is a family-operated compass adjusting service based in the Port of Fremantle, Western Australia, with over 50 years of combined experience adjusting magnetic compasses on every type and size of seagoing vessel in the global maritime industry.
We hold Compass Adjusters (Unlimited) Licences issued by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, allowing us to service any vessel, of any size, of any flag, in any operational area — from trailer boats, to oil tankers, to large offshore vessels. All work is carried out in accordance with AMSA Marine Order 27, SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 19, and ISO 25862.
What is a magnetic compass adjustment?
A magnetic compass adjustment is the process of identifying and reducing deviation evident in a vessel’s magnetic compass. A licensed Compass Adjuster attends the vessel, identifies the deviation and its sources, and where necessary may fit and reposition the appropriate hard iron and soft iron correctors to reduce or remove this deviation. A Compass Adjuster’s Declaration and Deviation Card is issued on completion. The adjustment is carried out in accordance with the applicable regulations, including AMSA Marine Order 27 (Safety of Navigation and Radio Equipment), SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 19, and ISO 25862.
